Jarrett Allen to miss Nets Summer League with injury

Brooklyn Nets first-round pick Jarrett Allen will not participate in the team’s Summer League due to sustaining a strained right hip flexor during pre-draft workouts, the team announced on Wednesday. The center just finished up his first and only season in college, with the Texas Longhorns. He averaged 13.3 points, 8.4 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per contest while flashing his efficiency in the paint, converting on 58 percent of his attempts from said area. He was even better against Big 12 opponents, averaging 16.2 points and 9.8 boards over 18 games in conference play. “He was a lot higher on our board, he was a guy we targeted. We certainly looked to move up in the draft to get him, and actually we didn’t have to move up,” general manager Sean Marks said in his press conference to introduce Allen. Half the players selected in the first round of the latest draft are 20 years or younger, with Allen, 19, being one of them. Despite not being able to participate in the precursor to the regular season, there is room to grow and become acclimated to the speed and physicality that the NBA boasts at his age. He’s also in an ideal location to earn playing time, barring the right hip flexor strain doesn’t set him back all too much. Brooklyn’s essentially starting from scratch after finishing the 2016-17 season at 20-62, the worst record in the NBA. “It’s open competition here,” head coach Kenny Atkinson said at the press conference. “I know one thing, he’s going to feel Timmy when he comes in our gym. I don’t look at age when it comes to the starting lineup. You have to earn it.” Original article and pictures take https://www.fanragsports.com/news/jarrett-allen-miss-nets-summer-league-injury/ site
