Inversion therapy isn't right for everyone, so you have to do research on weather or not it's right for you. There are certain people with whom inversion therapy isn't a good fit. Be aware. I'm personally a huge supporter and believer in the positive health effects for me. The main reason I use inversion therapy in the form of a rotating table is for my back. This is probably the most well known reason because hanging upside-down is wonderful for the back, but there are many other benefits as well. I want to share with you a few of these lesser known benefits with you. What you get when you invert goes beyond what you expect. Spinal Decompression is why I use the inversion table daily. It's the technical name for the main benefit that people get from inverting. The decompression of the spine is stretching and realigning the spine as you're going against the flow of gravity. It is when space opens up between the vertebrae. This relieves pressure on the discs, allows the vertebrae to realign, and improves circulation within the spinal column. Yay! :) Neck pain relief is the next benefit. As you're stretching the spine, it helps relax the muscles in the neck and shoulders. Many people can benefit greatly from inversion since they're hunched behind a computer all day long. Joint pain relief is a huge aspect of inversion therapy. All the major joints in the body get a boost from inverting. Gravity can affect them negatively over time just like your spine. Darn that gravity..LOL :) Hanging will open up these joints like nothing else can. It helps strengthen and stretch your ligaments and tendons as well. Muscle Relief is another great reason to invert. Hanging upside-down naturally stretches the muscles in the back, hamstrings, and hips.I love the stretch in my hips- it feels so good! If you have trouble touching your toes then you should try inversions to get the same stretch. It's allows your muscles to relax into the stretch without force. This lets you gain, or re-gain, flexibility quickly. Inflammation relief is the next reason to invert. For the most common inflamed muscle groups, hanging upside down allows more blood flow to those areas, while also allowing them to relax. A little ice and a little inversion can really speed up healing time. Flushing your Lymph System is a less known benefit to inversion therapy, but the lymph system is an important part of your immune system. It carries excess fluid away from your tissues. People who live sedentary lifestyles can build up too much fluid in the body and, as a result, they're more prone to being sick. The lymph system requires motion in order to operate. By inverting your body and doing mild exercise, you can move this vital fluid around. Game changer! The next benefit is right along the same lines and it's improved circulation. Varicose veins can be improved by using inversion therapy if they're not too advanced. Inverting allows the little gates inside of your veins relax and rebuild, and drains out excess blood. If you have blood clot issues then speak with a doctor before beginning inversion therapy. As I said before, make sure it's right for you. Blood builds up in the organs when you invert, flushing out extra toxins and waste products and putting them into the blood stream where they can be eliminated. Woah. I love science so as I researched inversion therapy I was totally geeking out! :) Be sure to drink plenty of water after your inversion sessions to assist with this. Drinking water after is vital- DON'T SKIP IT!!! Last, but certainly not least, is postural improvement. Your posture will improve over time with inversion therapy. Who couldn't use better posture, right?!!? A stretched spine is able to readjust back to its natural position. Gravity and time tend to warp our spines and hanging allows the hips to readjust. Misaligned hips are a common hidden factor in postural problems. (Mine are) As you can see, there's plenty of benefits to inversion besides a simple stretching of the back. You might want to try doing inversion therapy for a month and see if you don't feel an improvement in all these areas.
